COLUMBIA, S.C. — A clearer vision of Columbia Empowerment Zone's Bluff/Atlas Road Improvement Project was released Wednesday, showing where new city and county government buildings would locate in this mixed-use development.
The Station at Congaree Point, along the 3600 block of Bluff Road near the intersection of Altas Road, will be developed in two phases and will eventually incorporate approximately 35 acres once complete. Led by Columbia Empowerment Zone, the City of Columbia and Richland County will partner on the development announcing the following specifics regarding the project:
- City of Columbia plans a new 35-078-square foot Municipal Court Building and a 11,530-square foot Columbia Police Department Southeast Region Headquarters
- Richland County will build a new 7-930-square foot building to house a new Magistrate's Office and Sheriff's Substation
- Cooperative Health will build a 15,000-square foot, state-of-the-art family health care center to include primary health care, OB-GYN, pediatrics, dental, and behavioral health services, as well as a pharmacy.
- a 15,000-square foot multi-use building -- The Marketplace at Congaree Station -- will provide access to fresh foods, potentially through a farmers' market. It will also offer lower cost access to food entrepreneurs by the addition of five shared-use commercial kitchen stations. Food truck operators will also find a secure place to park and grey water disposal and grease recycling.
Phase One will also include community walking trails, a cafe or restaurant space within The Marketplace, and the possibility of an electric car charging station.
Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2025.
