WINNSBORO, S.C. — While renovations continue at the Fairfield County Courthouse in Winnsboro, the work schedule has reached the point where some offices within the courthouse dealing with the public need to be temporarily relocated.
Phase 3 of renovations takes into consideration the age of the 202-year-old building and includes remodeling office areas, new doors, ceiling grids and trim work, tackling asbestos abatement, the removal and replacement of water heaters, ductwork, HVAC systems, and the installation of new fire alarms and lighting. While this is going on, the following Fairfield County offices will relocate on or before April 30 and will remain at their new locations through the end of 2024:
- Auditor, Treasurer and Delinquent Tax Collector to 117 S Congress St., the old Planning and Zoning building across the parking lot from the Courthouse
- Tax Assessor to 200 Calhoun St., the former Behavioral Health building on the corner of Calhoun and Vanderhorst streets
- Probate Judge to 260 Bratton St., directly behind the County Administration building
- Clerk of Court and Register of Deeds will remain in the Courthouse basement. Enter through the building’s new addition behind the original Courthouse as the front and side doors of the original Courthouse will not be accessible.
If you need to do business with any of these offices, look for signage in the parking lots for directions to the correct locations. If you have a question about a location, call the main switchboard (803) 635-1415 to have your call directed to the appropriate department.
The Courthouse renovation project is expected to take about a year to complete, at an estimated cost of $6 million.
Built in 1822, the building at 101 S Congress St. is listed on the National Register as part of the Winnsboro Historic District.
