COLUMBIA, S.C. — An item on the agenda at The City of Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals meeting Thursday afternoon is a request to rezone the property at 2809 and 2901 Rosewood Drive to be a mixed-use site to include apartments and commercial development.

Developer Frank Cason has filed plans with the city to redevelop the former Rosewood Church into 47 residential units, using part of the existing church structure for the apartments. The plans submitted to the zoning board on Thursday are conceptual only. Formal site plan review will be required before the Planning Commission prior to permitting.

According to the zoning request, the church properties "consist of a +/-20,000 sq. ft. former church on a +/- 65,277 sq. ft. lot and a +/- 4,800 sq. ft. structure on a +/- 37,688 sq. ft. lot. The multifamily use will be part of a proposed mixed-use development that will be on both lots."
