COLUMBIA, S.C. — City of Columbia Parking Services and The American Heart Association are once again partnering in a unique initiative to raise awareness for heart health through a campaign of sponsored painted parking meters.
It works like this:
- Sponsors pay $500 to choose a parking meter to decorate in one of three City of Columbia business districts -- Five Points, The Vista, or Main Street. The money is a 100% tax-deductible donation to The American Heart Association.
- The 15 available sponsorships, 5 meters in each business district, are on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Sponsors can choose the meter they want to paint/decorate -- with limited restrictions -- and, at the end of the month, the decorated meter head will be removed and given to the sponsor to keep.
- The City will provide guidance on the decoration of the meters and will have final approval for all artwork.
- Applications for sponsorship must be completed and submitted by Friday, March 15, 2024.
