COLUMBIA, S.C. — City of Columbia's Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled to meet Thursday, June 2, at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall in Columbia. On the agenda for the meeting are four projects -- three of which are new construction/businesses:

  • Daquon Doyle is seeking an exception to permit Silk Restaurant, a new two-story eating and drinking establishment in the existing property at 902 Gervais St., Suite C. According to documents filed with the city, Silk will consist of a downstairs restaurant, bar and patio area, and an upstairs seating area with a space for live music. Silk would operate Tuesday through Sunday, open until 2 a.m., serving dinner Tuesday through Friday, and brunches, lunches and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Live music performances would be during brunch service (11a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday) and Thursday through Saturday dinner services (8 - 11 p.m.). 902 Gervais is already home to LongHorn Steakhouse and Peebles Wings Vista.
  • Bible Way Church of Atlas Road is petitioning to add a 11,600-square-foot facility to be used as a Children's and Youth Zone. The project, valued at $2.5 million, will include an auditorium and classroom spaces along the Harlem Street side of the existing church site on Atlas Road.
  • Columbia School Development (Clear Dot) is petitioning to have property at 631, 635 and 639 Elmwood Ave. rezoned in order to construct what would basically be an extension of Clear Dot's current campus at 2015 Marion St. The 18-acre Academica Charter School at Elmwood property would include athletic facilities, a school agricultural program and outdoor learning space, along with three classroom buildings. When complete, the new charter school would serve approximately 1,050 students in grades 3-12. The Marion Street campus would become a 4K-2 primary learning center.

The Board of Zoning Appeals meeting is open to the public and will be streamed live on CityTV, the City of Columbia's YouTube channel. The public may submit letters and statements via email to cocboardmeeting@columbiasc.gov either in advance of or during the meetings.
