FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. — One of the most well-known electric vehicle manufacturers in the United States is expanding its footprint into South Carolina.
The Greenville Area Development Corporation announced that Tesla will open a regional distribution center in Greenville County's Fountain Inn community. The facility will be in the Fox Hill Business Park on 172 acres.
Fountain Inn Mayor G.P. McLeer expressed excitement that it is now a vital part of the state's "robust automotive and mobility sectors" with the announcement.
"This facility, located in our city limits, will not only support local families with jobs but also confirms that Fountain Inn is a great place for companies, large and small, to do business," McLeer said.
In a statement released on Thursday, officials said the facility will "focus strictly on distribution of vehicle parts regionally and will not include manufacturing." The company has not yet released the total investment and potential jobs the facility could bring to the area.
While details are unavailable, a media release for the Greenville Area Development Corporation states the distribution center opening will be in "early 2024."
Tesla is partnering with The Suddler Companies based in New Jersey to establish the facility. The two are also working together on a similar project near Tampa, Florida, which was announced in 2023.
