COLUMBIA, S.C. — Beginning Thursday, January 23, 2020, The COMET will launch a pilot rural route that will connect the West Columbia SuperStop (Williams Drive at Charleston Highway) and Batesburg-Leesville via Lexington. The route is part of the service enhancements approved by COMET's Board of Directors in October 2018.
The route will run on Thursdays and operate three trips to West Columbia and two trips to Batesburg-Leesville. Fare for the new service is $2 one way and $4 for a day pass.
Connections to other COMET routes for travel into Columbia via Route 91 are available at the West Columbia SuperStop.
For riders needing door-to-door assistance, the route will deviate up to one mile off-route and passengers can flag down the bus between stops in Batesburg-Leesville for an additional $2 charge.
John Andoh, Executive Director and CEO of The COMET said, “Should the pilot be successful, an opportunity may exist for commuter-based transportation, five days a week.”
This service is funded with rural Federal funds provided by the Federal Transit Administration through the South Carolina Department of Transportation and local funds from Lexington County.
