COLUMBIA, S.C. — Changes are coming to the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (COMET) express routes for riders in Newberry and Sumter that use the transit system to get to Columbia.
The COMET is making changes to Routes 93x and 44x that will take effect on Sunday, May 7.
Route 93x, the express route to Newberry, will be discontinued in its present form due to low ridership. While local leaders agree there is a potential for a redesigned route between Columbia and Newberry to return, more work is needed to develop a route that is optimal for all.
Route 44x, an express route to Sumter, is reducing service due to service coordination with the Santee-Wateree Regional Transportation Authority. COMET service will have these changes:
- eliminate the first full trip (inbound and outbound) at 5 a.m. outbound from COMET Central and 6:30 a.m. inbound from Sumter
- eliminate the 5:15 p.m. outbound from COMET Central and 7:15 p.ml inbound from Sumter
- two round trips remain -- 6 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. outbound from COMET Central, and 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. inbound from Sumter.
