COLUMBIA, S.C. — For motorists who love a bit of history, the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) has issued a new vanity license plate commemorating the state's role in the American Revolutionary War.
The 250th Anniversary Revolutionary War plate is available for vehicle and motorcycle owners as of Jan. 1. Residents of South Carolina will pay the same price as for regular vehicle registration. Customers interested in buying the 250th Year Anniversary Revolutionary War specialty plate must complete the Application for a Special License Plate (SCDMV Form MV-95) and pay all required fees. The plate is available at SCDMVOnline.com, at any SCDMV branch office, or by mail.
250 years ago, in the spring of 1772, Committees of Correspondence were established throughout the North American British colonies in order to coordinate the response to British colonial policy.
Since the end of the Seven Years War in 1763, the British had increasingly began to impose taxes on colonial goods and occupying colonial cities such as Boston (in 1768).
The first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired on April 19, 1775, at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.
