COLUMBIA, S.C. — If you've ever wanted a say on how your tax dollars are spent in Richland County, here's your chance.

Richland County Council is seeking public comment on the upcoming 2024-2025 operating budget that begins on July 1, 2024, and ends on June 30, 3025. There is an in-person meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. May 23 for county residents to attend and weigh in on the budget that oversees the delivery of services, programs and resources. By law, the County must approve a balanced budget for the fiscal year before July 1.

If you cannot attend in person, the meeting will be live streamed on the County's YouTube page.

All residents are encouraged to review the recommended Budget Book for fiscal year 2025 on the County's website. The link to the General Fund, Debt Service, and Millage Agencies documents should be active on the Current Fiscal Year Reports 2025 page following the County's budget work session at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. Follow this link for a preview of the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget to be discussed during Tuesday's afternoon session.

Residents who would like to comment in person should pre-register by emailing budgetpublichearing@richlandcountysc.gov by 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. Include your name, email address and the name of your organization. You should plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before the start of the meeting to check in.

If you would like to comment but cannot attend the in-person meeting, you can send written comments to the same email address above to be included in the record.

Richland County residents are encouraged to attend the meeting even if you do not sign up to speak.
