COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) reminds taxpayers who had been granted an extension last year as a result of Hurricane Ian that the deadline for 2021 state income tax return extension is Feb. 15, 2023.
Any extension filers who have not yet filed their 2021 state Income Tax return must file by Feb. 15 to avoid penalties and interest, and to be eligible for a state tax rebate.
SCDOR says the Feb. 15 deadline also applies to other returns and payments granted Hurricane Ian tax relief, including:
- Business Income Tax returns originally due between October 17, 2022 and February 15, 2023
- Certain quarterly Withholding returns and payments, including those originally due October 31, 2022 and January 31, 2023
- Fourth quarter Corporate and Individual Income Tax estimated payments, originally due December 2022 and January 2023.
The deadline is only for 2021 Individual Income Tax returns, not 2022 returns, which are due April 18.
If you have are expecting a rebate and have changed your mailing address since the last time you filed your taxes, SCDOR will need you to update your mailing address by one of two ways:
- Log in to MyDORWAY and click the More tab. Then, under Names and Addresses, click Manage Names & Addresses.
- If you don't have a MyDORWAY account, download the SC8822I and email the completed form to TaxSupport@dor.sc.gov.
