COLUMBIA, S.C. — A water main break has flooded streets and nearby yards in Columbia's Rosewood neighborhood Tuesday morning, putting two blocks of Superior Street in a boil water advisory.
A post in the Rosewood Neighbors Facebook group around 9:30 a.m. showed orange colored water flowing through the 1800 block of Superior St.
Columbia Water issued a boil water advisory for residents and businesses on Superior between Wiley Street to S Edisto Avenue., citing a 12-inch water main break. As of noon, the flow of water in the street had stopped but a sinkhole had opened up in the road. Crews are on the scene and Columbia Water expects service to be restored before 4 p.m.
The water main break could lead to bacterial contamination.
The boil water advisory means that anyone near the affected area who may have experienced a loss of water and/or pressure, or are experiencing discolored water, are advised to vigorously boil their water at least one full minute before use. Boiling water before use should continue until Columbia Water cancels the advisory. Also, any ice made from water that was not boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
