Dominion Energy customers won't see a rate increase just yet

Public Service Commission met to vote on the increase for approximately 5.7%, which works out to about $7.99.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dominion Energy users might not see a rate increase quite yet.

It all comes following a special called meeting held by The Public Service Commission, where they were expected to vote on the annual review of base rates for fuel costs of Dominion Energy

Dominion's request for the increase was to cover the increase in natural gas, and price increases for other commodities such as coal and oil.

If that request had been approved, a residential customer using 1,000-kilowatt hours of electricity would increase by approximately 3.91%, which is $5.49, beginning in May.

The original request was for an increase of approximately 5.7%, which works out to about $7.99.

At the beginning of the meeting, a motion was made by Justin Williams the commissioner of the 6th District, when he asked for Dominion representatives to take another look to see if they could further reduce the increase.

He asked the commission to set a deadline to answer that request by April 24th at 5 pm.

That motion was agreed to.

News19 reached out to Dominion Energy following the meeting in a statement they say:

Dominion Energy is committed to minimizing the impact of fuel costs on our customers’ bills. we must, however, recover the costs of purchasing and transporting fuel to produce the electricity our customers rely on every day. we encourage customers to contact us if they need payment assistance.

As of now, there is no set date for when this will be taken up again.
