LUGOFF, S.C. — With the cut of a ribbon, 120 jobs are officially coming to Kershaw County as STL has established operations in Lugoff.
"They've established their manufacturing operations and their North American HQs, which is a big deal," said Kershaw County Economic Development Director Jeff Burgess.
Burgess said more jobs will encourage people to stay in the area.
"This always creates more jobs, people want to work closer to home and it gives people the opportunity who live here to work in the community they live and play, they are technical jobs, and they have the longevity that's built-in, so that also attracts people to the community to take advantage of that," he said.
STL's new facility will increase the company's capacity to meet the growing demand for high-speed internet through fiber.
Penry Gustafson (R-Camden) said it would help the area.
"We know through COVID that internet access, broadband access is just as important as electricity today, just as an important, for education, health," Gustafson said.
She said she's also excited that it could motivate students in the area to stay.
"I envision some of our technical students and our technical college will be pulled into this area, and it will be attractive for them to come, and they are just starting out a lot of them so they can build their families here," Gustafson said.
The facility is located at Heritage Pointe Industrial Park in Lugoff.
This is a $23 million investment in the county.
