Shoppers are choosing small businesses as they search for the perfect holiday gifts

One local shop said this is the biggest weekend with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Friday kicked off a busy shopping weekend: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.

People are getting their holiday shopping done, and many are turning to local businesses in the Midlands.

"So excited we have so many loyal customers this is our biggest weekend," Leanne Reynolds, manager at Fab'rik in Forest Acres, said.

"I shop locally to support the locally owned businesses, and it's fun to come in and pop in and out of the little boutiques and search for little treasures," shopper Morgan Lanier said.

Some shoppers chose smaller shops around town for the variety and to avoid the crowds.

"And they have such a nice variety but not too many different styles you can feel a little more unique and its just a lovely store," Kathy Mitchell said while shopping.

Owners of businesses around Columbia, like Fab'rik, said people choosing local has a significant impact.

"We have had we are just hoping for record sales its been soft sales through the summer but we're really picking up so the plaza is busy this is our homerun derby right now," Reynolds said.

Right next door, Scout and Molly workers say the Clemson-Carolina game brings business to the smaller stores.

"A lot of people are here for the game, so even just buying an outfit for the game because it'll be here and we have lots of garnet and black and even some purple and orange too, unfortunately," Kenzie Hanna said.

They said that, with the game starting in the evening, there will be more time to shop.
