COLUMBIA, S.C. — With 21,403 donations made to 568 nonprofit organizations, as of midnight, Central Carolina Community Foundation's Midlands Gives raised $4,442,862 for nonprofits in 11 counties in South Carolina.
The annual day of giving also had just over 19,000 volunteer hours pledged.
Midlands Gives fundraiser occurs the first Tuesday in May and money and time collected goes to nonprofits serving Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, and Sumter counties. Since its inception in 2014, the 18-hour event has raised over $20 million for area nonprofits.
This year, the nonprofits receiving the most monetary donations were:
