Recall issued over various vegetables, salsas that may contain listeria at Kroger stores

The recall impacts various foods sold at Kroger stores in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Food and Drug Administration is warning of a recall impacting several vegetable products, such as salsa, at Kroger stores in three states.

The recall was announced by the company GHGA over concerns of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination and impacts Kroger stores in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama.

Listeria can cause severe illness and sometimes death - typically in those with weakened immune systems such as the elderly and young children. Short-term symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea. However, it can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

According to the FDA, the company that provides the foods was notified on Sept. 16 that a single sample of a product had tested positive for listeria. At this time, however, there are no known cases tied to the products.

Foods impacted by the recall include asparagus saute, diced bell pepper and white onion, diced red onion, fajita mix, fiesta corn, hamburger fixins, hatch chile guacamole blender, large medium salsa, large mild chunky guacamole, large mild salsa, mango habanero blender, medium hatch salsa, Mexican-style layered bean dip, mild guacamole blender, mushroom stir fry blend, seasoned squash onion and dill, small medium hatch chile pico de gallo, small ranch tray with dip, snacking peppers, spicy guacamole blender, steak topper, 3 skewer veggie kabobs, tri-pepper blend, and vegetable bowl.
