COLUMBIA, S.C. — From Death Valley Towing to Zombie Bob's Pizza, the South Carolina Treasurer's Office shared some "spooky" names ahead of Halloween this week. Treasurer Curtis Loftis said these people and businesses have money sitting around that they've never claimed.
Loftis released the names, which included unusual business monikers and people with surnames like Blood, Bone, Skeleton and Warlock.
All of them, he said, had money that had not yet been claimed. Statewide, his office said there is more than $950 million in unclaimed property. The treasurer's office said property covered in the program could include "dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, unclaimed insurance proceeds and forgotten utility deposits."
Loftis said anyone can check online to see if they are owed money by visiting treasurer.sc.gov and clicking the Unclaimed Property section. And he said there are far more people who weren't highlighted on his Halloween list who should probably take a look.
