While you’re putting on your sunblock to protect yourself from the sun, experts warn you need to also protect your bank account.

The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs said these are some of the most common scams popping up this summer.
- Fake toll charges: experts warn scammers are targeting drivers during vacation season with text messages pretending to be from a tolling agency. They claim there are “overdue toll charges” you need to pay.
- Travel scams: scammers know everyone is looking to take an inexpensive way to take a trip… so keep an eye out for “free vacation offers, robocalls about vacation deals or fake vacation rentals
- Job scams: and looking for a job this summer? Beware of unsolicited calls or social media messages from imposters pretending to be from a staffing or recruiting agency. Experts say scammers may ask for cryptocurrency payments to “unlock” work opportunities.
The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is holding a free webinar on summer scams on Wednesday, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. The seminar will discuss these schemes and offer some tips for avoiding all types of scams.You can register online.
