Winnsboro is preparing for upgrades to its water and sewer system

The Rural Infrastructure Authority funds were allocated by the South Carolina General Assembly from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

WINNSBORO, S.C. — Thanks to a federal grant, improvements for water infrastructure will soon be on the way to the Midlands.

"Unless you have infrastructure, water, and sewer that's the foundation needed for growth," says the town manager of Winnsboro, Jason Taylor.

Taylor says they have received two grants, the first $10 million dollars is for the Fairfield Joint Water & Sewer Authority to help expand sewer capacity to industrial sites, and the other $10 million is for the town of Winnsboro to expand and upgrade their water treatment plant.  All of this is needed for growth coming to the areas they serve according to the town manager.

"The town of Winnsboro not only serves the town of Winnsboro but we also serve several other municipalities and special purpose districts we serve are Blythewood and Ridgeway," he adds.

The recent announcement of SCOUT Motors coming to Blythewood brings jobs which brings more people to the neighboring area.

"Obviously with the new SCOUT facility coming there is a lot of growth that is anticipated for the area, so we do need additional water capacity to serve that growth, we ourselves have already started getting the phone calls from residential developers, commercial developers, and other industry that would be coming in the wake of the SCOUT announcement," he says.

Taylor says they won't know unit after a work shot next month with the chamber of commerce when residents will see changes.
