SC deputies warn of spoofing phone scam

If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The York County Sheriff's Office is warning people to be on the lookout for a phone scam.

The scammer is spoofing their phone number, pretending to be from the social security office.

Calls will either show up as unknown or as the number on your screen with an 803 area code.

The scammer will threaten to suspend your social security number and will ask to confirm your number so they can reactivate it. 

If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately.
