BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — A few Lexington County residents were inducted into the Batesburg Leesville African American Hall of Fame on Saturday night.
These individuals were recognized for their significant impact on the town and beyond, helping shape its culture and identity.
News19 spoke with two of these inductees.
"I used to be on town council for 3.5 years, and I retired from Lexington School District 3 in June of last year, for 33 years, and I retired from Lexington County Recreation Aging Commission after 30 years," honoree Cynthia Etheredge said.
According to the emcee and current Batesburg-Leesville council member Steve Cain, this is the third class of inductees.
"I've had my license in Batesburg for 78 years ... I knew no other way but living here, but I travel a lot, but I always come back to Batesburg though, this is home," honoree Corine Johnson said.
