Community meeting to discuss transportation issues in Whaley, Granby and Olympia neighborhoods

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A group consisting of residents within the Granby, Whaley and Olympia neighborhoods of Columbia -- The Mill District Alliance -- will be hosting a community meeting Thursday, June 27, at 701 Whaley.

Scheduled for 4-7 p.m. in the Granby Room at 701 Whaley, the main topic of discussion will be the long-standing transportation issues that have been an issue for the area. Some of the goals in the Capital City Mill District Area & Corridor Plan is to eliminate trains in the neighborhoods, better manage heavy truck and game day traffic, and complete pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure (sidewalks and bike lanes).

The full agenda will also include discussion of area parks, recreation and the environment, the art trail, and the historic districts and increasing home ownership.

Light food and drinks will be provided at the meeting. Senator Darrell Jackson, Representatives Seth Rose and Russell Ott, Richland County Councilwomen Allison Terracio and Cheryl English, and Columbia City Council members Will Brennan and Aditi Bussells are scheduled to be in attendance.
