COLUMBIA, S.C. — Now is the time to open up those wallets and do some good for the local Midlands community. Midlands Gives -- the annual fundraising event to raise money and awareness for local nonprofits -- is Tuesday, May 2.
Hosted by the Central Carolina Community Foundation, Midlands Gives gives everyone the chance to support local organizations across 11 Midlands counties during the 18-hour online giving challenge. The early giving window is open now, but the official Midlands Gives runs from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
Those wishing to give can visit midlandsgives.org and browse through the 575 organizations or 300 fundraising pages listed and choose one or more to donate to. There is a wide range of nonprofits -- from youth development to animal rescue, arts organizations to hospice care -- and fundraising pages.
Donations through Midlands Gives are 100% tax deductible. There is a minimum donation of $10 and all gifts made at midlandsgives.org are non-refundable. A credit card fee of 5% is assessed for each donation. All money donated goes directly to the donor's chosen organizations.
Midlands Gives has been going on since 2014 and has raised over $19 million for organizations in Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, and Sumter counties.
