BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — A South Carolina high school community is mourning the loss of a well-known and beloved student on Saturday.
Blythewood High School Principal Matt Sherman sent a message to parents announcing the death of junior Troy Allen Moore.
"Troy was a cherished member of our community, known for his athletic talents as a member of both our varsity football and basketball teams, his kindness, enthusiasm and academic excellence," he said.
A post regarding Moore's death on the Blythewood Bengal Football Facebook page described him as a member of their family.
"His talent, dedication, & bright spirit made a lasting impact on all," the post said.
The post also asked for continued prayers for the community. Since then, many messages have poured in showing support for the team and honoring the young man's memory.
Principal Sherman said in his notice to families that it was important that the school share the information, as the impact of such a tragedy is felt far beyond the school. Others in Richland Two are also mourning.
"Please remember that our community is here to offer support," he said. "Counseling services are available for students and staff who may need someone to talk to."
He concluded by asking the community to honor Moore's memory by remembering his positive impact on the community.
"Let us keep Troy and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this time," he said. "May we find comfort in each other and strength in the shared memories we hold."
