Connor Shaw Hits The Road Recruiting

Former USC quarterback Connor Shaw has just wrapped up his first spring as a college coach and on Tuesday, his first day hitting the road as a college recruiter included a stop at Dutch Fork High School.

Connor Shaw figured his first day on the recruiting trail should include a visit to the defending two-time 5A state champions.

With high school football teams kicking off spring practice, Connor was able to spend some time observing Dutch Fork in action albeit in helmets and shorts.

Shaw is the all-time winningest quarterback in USC history with a 27-5 overall mark which included a perfect 17-0 record at Williams-Brice Stadium. He spent four years in the NFL but now, he has begun his coaching career as Furman's tight ends coach. Connor says his experiences as a player learning under a vareity of coaches will benefit him as he follows in his father's footsteps.

"Well I think it starts with my dad, being able to play for him in high school," Shaw said.

"He's done a great job and coached all of his life. And then going on to play for Coach Spurrier. There are so many things on and off the field I've taken from him. And then having four different offensive coordinators in the NFL, just a broad knowledge of the game. I still have a good relationship with Coach (Dowell) Loggains and Coach (Dave) Ragone who are in Chicago and Miami. So, there's a lot of resources to help me out there."

Shaw says his recruiting territory will take him to familiar places in South Carolina and Georgia. He is looking forward to hitting the road, traveling across the southeast in search of players who can make a difference at Furman.

Connor will be in familiar territory when the Paladins kick off the season at Clemson.
