14-year-old killed in Orangeburg identified, police still searching for shooter

The shooting happened near a house in the city of Orangeburg.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety is searching for the person or persons responsible for killing a 14-year-old.

The Orangeburg County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 14-year-old Zaquan Corbett Jr. of Orangeburg.  He was shot and killed on November 15.

An incident report from the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety said the shooting took place just before 5:30 p.m. near the area of Wheeler Street and Nottingham Street in Orangeburg. Officers said they got a report from dispatch that a white vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed and that several males were seen running from the area after the shots were fired. 

One victim was airlifted to the hospital while another was transported to the Medical University of Charleston.

Officers said they found shell casings and a live round at the scene of the crime.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting and so far, no suspects have been identified. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
