16-Year-Old Charged with Murder In Death of Gray Collegiate Student

Police believe the suspect tried to rob the victim and another teen of a video game machine.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have arrested a teenager who they say shot and killed a student at Gray Collegiate Academy.

Desmond Marquise Cromer, 16, is charged with murder, attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Offices say around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Cromer shot and killed 14-year-old Tiquan Taylor and injured another 15-year-old at a location on St. Andrews Road.

The family of a 14-year-old boy killed in a shooting on St. Andrews Road Sunday morning is looking for answers.

According to officers, Cromer had made arrangements to purchase a gaming device. However, they say he attempted to rob the teens, and a short struggle ensued, During the struggle, he shot the two victims.

The other victims remains in serious condition.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott expressed frustration with the shooting over a gaming device, calling it a senseless crime that affected the lives of too many.

Cromer is being charged as an adult.
