Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Two juvenile cousins have been charged in connection with an arson investigation at the Walmart on Bush River Road.
Police say a 13-year-old is charged with Third Degree Arson and a 11-year-old is being charged with Third Degree Arson and Shoplifting. Officers were able to identify the juveniles after receiving Crimestoppers tips.
The two were taken into juvenile custody late Friday afternoon after their parents turned them in to the Columbia Police Department.
Police say the 11-year-old allegedly stole a lighter from the Wal-Mart and and intentionally set a fire in the greeting card aisle on December 31st.
According to Columbia Fire Investigators, the arson caused millions of dollars in damages. As a result of the incident, the store had to be evacuated and was closed for hours..
Investigators say the juveniles will be turned over to their parents and will likely be petitioned to Lexington County Family Court.
