Men charged with killing of 9-month-old child, shooting into two different homes

Two men, ages 25 and 18, charged with murder after 9-month-old dies from gunshot wounds after they shot into a residence

LEE COUNTY, S.C. — Two men are facing multiple charges in Lee County for their connection to a series of shootings that left a nine-month-old baby dead.

Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon said in a statement that Roshad Wilson, 25, and Rayquawn Commander, 18, are both being charged with one count of murder, 13 counts of attempted murder, 2 counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling, and 3 counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The two men are allegedly connected to the following three separate shooting incidents near Bishopville, in Lee County:

  • April 19, 2024: Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) responded to a call of shots fired at 413 Raccoon Rd. Arriving at the residence, deputies observed the house had been shot multiple times while seven people were inside. No injuries were reported during this shooting.
  • May 9, 2004: LCSO responded to a home at 10 Herbert Lane. The house had been hit 49 times by gunfire while occupied by six people. One adult victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was treated for "substantial injuries." A second victim, 9-month-old Benjamin Griffin III was also struck by gunfire. Griffin died on May 22 as a result from his injuries.
  • May 27, 2024: A victim was shot while in the parking lot of a convenience store at 2572 Sumter Highway. The victim was not struck by gunfire, cut received minor injuries from debris caused by the shooting.

LCSO investigators were able to identify two suspects involved in the shootings. Wilson was arrested at his home while Commander, with the assistance of South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), was taken into custody in Heflin, Alabama.
