8 Students Charged After Fight at Lakewood High in Sumter County

The fight took place back on February 20, and a video of the encounter was shared on social media.

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County deputies say eight Lakewood High Students are facing charges after a large fight after school.

The arrests were announced Thursday in response to the altercation that took place back on February 20.

A video circulated on social media that appeared to show much of the fight as it was happening. The caused a stir in the community. Many people reached out to News19 asking what would be done.

“The difficulty lies in the fact that usually a video only tells a part of the story," said Sheriff Anthony Dennis. "We viewed several videos to get as complete of story as we could. We also interviewed, not only the participants, but other students who witnessed the event."

“Hopefully, this will not happen again as these students now face charges from law enforcement.”

The suspects are identified as follows:

Tylin Benenhaley, 17

Johnvanttee Ameen Bender, 17

Tyrek Dequan Brown, 18

Terrence Lee Epps, 19

Jalin Omar Harvin-Thomas, 17

Caleb Garret McCloud, 18

Kristopher Rex Twigg, 17

Alex Daniel Zaragoza, 17

The district says the eight all received a personal recognizance bond and will not be allowed back on school property.
