COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) confirmed another arrest of an Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center employee after she supplied contraband to a detainee there.
Ja’la Gladden, 24, faces charges of misconduct in office and furnishing contraband.
An investigation was launched by RCSD deputies on February 20 regarding Gladden. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Gladden was in a relationship with an inmate at Alvin S Glenn and was supplying him with a cell phone to use. Gladden communicated with the inmate on a regular basis from her personal cell phone. She never disclosed the nature of her relationship with the inmate, nor did she notify the jail of the contraband cell phone.
Gladden was arrested, charged, and booked into Alvin S Glenn on February 28. She is the tenth Alvin S Glenn Detention Center employee to be arrested, the ninth to be charged with supplying contraband, since January 1, 2024.
Alvin S Glenn is under investigation by the US Department of Justice over allegations the jail is violating inmates' civil rights with credible allegations the facility is structurally unsafe and that there have been sexual assaults, homicides, and prevalent violence resulting in serious injuries.
