Fire at Irmo apartment complex leaves several residents displaced Wednesday morning

IRMO, S.C. — An early morning fire at an Irmo apartment complex has left several residents displaced.

Firefighters from Irmo Fire District were assisted by crews from Columbia-Richland Fire, Lexington County Fire, and West Columbia Fire in bringing the blaze under control Wednesday, January 10. The fire began in an upstairs unit at Gleneagle Apartment Homes, just off St. Andrews Road, and spread through the attic area, burning off a portion of the roof.

Eight units in the building were rendered uninhabitable and several residents were displaced. No injuries were reported, all occupants reportedly made it out of the building safely.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross will be providing assistance to the displaced residents.
