AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — Aiken County deputies are searching for a suspect they describe as "armed and dangerous" after an Aiken County man was shot and killed Wednesday morning.
Arnold Patrick Reeves, 50, is described as a white male who stands 5'11" tall, weighs around 205 pounds and was last seen wearing all black at the time of the shooting. Investigators say Reeves should should be considered armed and dangerous. Reeves is expected to be charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The victim has been identified as Charlie G. Weener, 36, of New Ellenton. Officials say Weener was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Newberry, according to Aiken County coroner Darryl Ables.
Deputies say they responded to a reported shooting on Valley Drive in New Ellenton around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. When they arrived, deputies say they found a male victim lying in the driveway with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Aiken County EMS determined Weener was deceased. A female companion of Weener also suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound, officials say.
A witness told deputies that Arnold Patrick Reeves shot the victims with a shotgun. Reeves reportedly tried to get Weener's companion to drive him away, at which time a struggle over the weapon occurred. Deputies say the female victim was struck in the hand by gunfire and Reeves then fled the area on foot.
Reeves was not located during a search of the area by deputies and a bloodhound tracking team.
