COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies have arrested a man who they say is responsible for shooting and killing two people in Columbia earlier this year.
Officers announced Wednesday that 21-year-old Christian Joquan Irick had been taken into custody on two counts of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He's now being held at the Richland County jail.
Back on September 26, deputies say two men were shot in the 1000 block of Willow Oak Drive. Officers said the victims were found on the ground outside a set of apartments there. The victims, identified as 25-year-old Daeonte K. Lang, and 21-year-old Christopher Haynes, both died at the scene.
Deputies have not yet said what they believe led up to the shooting.
Irick was found around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on the campus of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, SLED, and the SC State campus police. Deputies say Irick is not a student at the school but was there visiting a friend.
