Arrest made after shots fired into vehicle in Sumter, sheriff says

A disagreement between the suspect and the victim appears to have been the motive, according to deputies.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A suspect has been arrested after a weekend shooting into an occupied car in Sumter County, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say they received a call reporting shots fired into an occupied vehicle at 9:39 p.m., Sunday evening, July 21, 2024, and they responded to a business on North Main Street. 

When deputies arrived, they found no one was injured, but a vehicle had several bullet holes. 

Deputies say the victim had been inside their car when the suspect fired rounds at them from another car, hitting the vehicle and leaving bullet fragments inside the car. Fortunately, they were not injured.

On Monday morning, July 22, 2024, Sumter County deputies served a warrant on the suspect and took the suspect into custody. A disagreement between the suspect and the victim appears to have been the motive.
