COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the relaunch of the Catawba Area Regional Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the SC Human Trafficking Task Force.
The Catawba Area Regional Human Trafficking Task Force will be co-chaired by Detective Brandon Avidon of the Rock Hill Police Department and Lisa Glazebrook, coordinator of the Child Advocacy Center at Safe Passage in York County. Avidon and Glazebrook will coordinate anti-human trafficking efforts in Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster, Union, and York counties.
"Human Trafficking is not an exotic crime–it happens on Main Street USA," said Attorney General Alan Wilson. "Relaunching this regional task force will help reach into these local communities, provide education and awareness, and help for victims."
The relaunched task force is one of the regional efforts across the state to prevent this crime, coordinate responses to cases, support victims, and prosecute offenders. It's also supported by Mandy Bowden, the state task force program coordinator for the Midlands and the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force.
“Human trafficking is an important issue that needs to be addressed,” said Chief Chris Watts from the Rock Hill Police Department. “The best way to accomplish this is through cooperative efforts with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, area law enforcement agencies, and community partners.”
