LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington Police say that a suspect is in custody after they claim he kidnapped a woman and barricaded himself in a home for hours.

The incident began the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 22, in the 100 block of Palm Court. Officers responding to a call of a kidnapping discovered the man had held the female victim for hours against her will and allegedly assaulted her during this time. The woman was able to escape and call police.

Around 7 p.m., Lexington Police officers attempted to contact the man but he remained uncooperative. The standoff continued as the Emergency Services Team (EST) and Crisis Negotiations Unit were called to the scene. After negotiations failed to get the man to surrender, EST was able to remove the man from the residence without further incident.

Police identified the man as Keith Dwayne Miles, 57, of Lexington. Miles was transported to Lexington Medical Center for treatment and evaluation before being sent to Lexington County Detention Center. He has been charged with Assault and Battery, High and Aggravated and Kidnapping. His bond hearing will be held Monday morning.
