Lexington County man charged with attempted murder, kidnapping

29-year-old allegedly tried to kill one person and threatened to kill another

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — A 29-year-old man has been arrested after incidents that occurred on the evening of Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Lexington County.

Lexington County Sheriff's deputies arrested Jerry William Hall, Jr., of Batesburg, and charged him with attempted murder, kidnapping, third-degree assault and battery, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes and possession of meth.

According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, deputies were dispatched to a home on Bayonet Road after a neighbor called 911. Witnesses at the scene told deputies that over the course of nine hours, Hall assaulted the victim numerous times and locked them in the house when they tried to escape. When a witness tried to enter the home, Hall threatened to kill them as well.

Hall had left the house before deputies arrived at the scene and the severely beaten victim was found in nearby woods.

“Investigators determined Hall punched the victim, kicked them with his steel-toed boots and restricted their airway to the point of unconsciousness,” Koon said.

Deputies investigating the case received information regarding Hall's location and he was located Friday, August 23, in the 100 block of Buggy Road, about seven miles away from the crime scene.

Hall was arrested and is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center after being denied bond.
