Bond Denied for Auto Shop Murder Suspect Arrested in Florida

He was booked the Sumter County Jail Friday night, and will now face murder charges.

Sumter, SC (WLTX) — A man wanted in connection to an auto shop shooting incident has been returned to Sumter County after being arrested in Florida.

Ken Bell with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office said 38-year-old Demetrius Alexander Brown was arrested just before 11 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida, without incident.

Brown was wanted in connection in the shooting death of 34-year-old Shermaine Pack. He was booked at the Sumter County Jail Friday night, and will now face murder charges.

Deputies said Brown shot Pack at Auto Doctors on South Pike East Road in Sumter. Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the two knew each other, and had been arguing over a purchase of a car.

Earlier this week, Sheriff Dennis said that Brown was found in Jackson County, Georgia, but managed to elude police.

Brown waived extradition back to South Carolina during a hearing in Jacksonville, Florida, Thursday. During a hearing Saturday in Sumter County, bond was denied. Brown will now await a bond hearing in general sessions court at the Sumer County Jail.

Charges currently include murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, but additional charges are possible, according to a report.
