SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A child is dead and a mother facing charges following a Wednesday evening crash in Aiken County.
According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:10 p.m. Salley Road near Inkberry Road - roughly four miles west of Salley.
Tidwell said that 25-year-old Ronesha Quattlebaum was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima and heading west when it left the road to the right and hit an embankment. Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables added that the vehicle also overturned
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said that the crash killed Quattlebaum's passenger, 3-year-old Journi Quattlebaum. Ables identified Journi as the driver's child. An autopsy will be performed in Newberry, Ables said.
Tidwell said Ronesha Quattlebaum has been charged with felony driving under the influence involving death and is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center. Jail records also show an additional charge of child endangerment related to certain vehicular offenses with a minor in the vehicle.
