One-year-old boy injured in drive-by shooting in Kershaw County

Incident occurred early Saturday morning in Camden

CAMDEN, S.C. — Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan says a one-year-old child is "doing well" after being injured during a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning.

Around 12:30 a.m. August 10, Kershaw County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call in the 600 block of St. Paul Road, in the Knights Hill area of Camden. Witnesses say a light-colored SUV with its headlights turned off slowly approached a house and one or more suspects in the SUV began firing multiple shots at the home.

According to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) incident report, deputies recovered multiple shell casings from the scene. In addition to the home being hit, a vehicle in the yard of the targeted residence and the house next door were also hit multiple times by gunfire.

The only person hit was the one-year-old victim, who had a bullet graze his elbow.

“We do not believe this was a random shooting," Boan said, "It appears to have been planned. The only thing we know for sure right now is our one-year-old victim had absolutely nothing to do with the poor decision made by the shooter.”
