CLEMSON, S.C. — Police have provided more information regarding the gunfire near Clemson University on Sunday afternoon that led to a campus alert urging students, faculty and staff to "secure in place."

Police for the city of Clemson released a statement on Sunday night explaining that a dispute between several people at Dawson Park on Old Stone Church Road eventually led to one person firing several shots in the direction of others. The gunfire caused several people at the park to run. Police said no one was injured in the incident.

The department said that, in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act, Clemson University Public Safety officials issued a "Critical Alert" due to a possible threat to the campus community. The department sent the alert around 7:10 p.m. and lifted it around 8 p.m. Normal operations at the university resumed at that point.

City police are still investigating the incident and have collected evidence from the scene. Anyone with additional information can contact Detective John Brown at 864-624-2008.
