COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia police have announced an arrest in the murder of a woman who was shot and killed at a Bojangles on Harbison Boulevard last week.
23-year-old Ja’Quivian A. Kennerly turned himself in Wednesday morning, according to police. Kennerly with is charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent Crime and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Police say Kennerly shot at a vehicle multiple times in the parking lot of Bojangles on Harbison Boulevard in an attempt to physically harm two passengers.
A third victim, identified by the Lexington County Coroner as Antoinette Hammonds-Colón was standing in the parking lot when she was struck by gunfire in the upper body. She died at a local hospital.
No one else was injured. CPD Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a prior dispute.
Colón's family told News19 she was working that morning at the Bojangles when the shooting happened. The Columbia Police Department says they believe Colón was an innocent bystander.
Colón’s family described her as a devoted wife, mother of nine, and someone with a “heart of gold.”
