RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A Columbia mother has been arrested for the death of her 8-month-old baby boy, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Office.
31-year-old Breonte Glasgow is charged with homicide by child abuse. She was arrested by investigators at her home on Universal Drive Thursday morning.
On Saturday, March 11, the Richland County Coroner’s Office notified sheriff's department investigators of a suspicious death of an infant.
Glasgow had reportedly called 911 Saturday morning to report that the baby wasn’t breathing. He was transported to the hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced deceased.
Deputies say Glasgow’s three other children were taken into DSS custody that same day.
The investigation revealed that the baby had suffered multiple injuries, including broken bones, while in the care of Glasgow, according to deputies. Investigators also say they determined Glasgow was the sole caregiver of the victim and his three siblings.
In addition to the homicide by child abuse charge, Glasgow was charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child after two of the other children were found to have injuries they suffered while in her care.
