Coroner identifies woman whose body was found behind convenience store in Columbia

Richland County Coroner names 32-year-old woman, investigation into her death continues

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford has identified the woman whose body was found in a trash can behind a convenience store on Colonial Drive in Columbia on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Domonique M. Palmero-Pohl, 32, of Columbia. Palmero-Pohl's body was found near the Q Mart in the 3200 block of Colonial Drive, near Academy Street, not far from Prisma Health Richland Hospital, on April 11.

A woman at the scene when Columbia Police arrived at the store told News19 she had seen some women and a couple of men going through the garbage can looking for food when one of the men found Palmero-Pohl's body. The woman went inside the Q Mart convenience store to tell the manager there was a body on the premises and called the police.

Investigators are treating the death as suspicious and said it's unclear how long Palmero-Pohl may have been at the location. Authorities said they have identified a person of interest but are not describing that person as a suspect.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as they become available.
