Sumter, SC (WLTX) A 17-year-old is wanted after shots were fired at an SUV in a Sumter neighborhood.

Police intend to charge Dominik Dingle of Sumter with attempted murder, tampering with evidence, and unlawful carrying of a weapon following the shooting on Kings Street Saturday evening.

Dingle, according to police, was initially identified by witnesses as the intended target; however, investigators determined Dingle was not a victim but a suspect.

A home surveillance system recorded the suspect running toward a passing SUV and firing a weapon several times. The man is later seen returning to the site and picking up spent shell casings and discarding them.

Sumter Police cheif Russell F. Roark III called the latest in a string of South Sumter shootings "wreckless".

"Innocent lives could be senselessly lost because of the actions of individuals like this man who for whatever his intention fired a deadly weapon at a moving vehicle. This is an area where people live, worship, children play--people who are not part of the illegal activity that unfortunately sometimes comes their way, " said Roark.

Police say that this shooting and other acts like this are not random. Police have identified several shootings in SOuth Sumter since January that involve some of the same individuals and are related to drug activity.
