COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police and the Richland County Coroner's Office are investigating a shooting that left a man dead Saturday, August 17.
According to a statement shared to social media by the police department, the shooting happened around midnight in the 1200 block of King Street -- a residential area off Millwood Avenue. Police were called to the area and detained a person for questioning, but they said the investigation was still underway.
Police have not released details regarding what might have led to the shooting but said updates would be provided when they become available.
Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford has identified the dead man as Eugene Bell, Jr., 32, of Columbia.
