Driver dies in early morning Orangeburg County crash

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A driver is dead following an early morning crash in Orangeburg County.

Lance Corporal Brittany Glover with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the single-vehicle crash happened around 5 a.m. on U.S. 301 (Bamberg Road) at Legrand Smoak Street, about two miles from Cordova.

Glover said a 2021 Toyota Camry was heading north on U.S. 301 when it went off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

Glover deferred to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office for details regarding the deceased victim, such as the person's identity.
