ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill man shot and killed a coworker in self-defense after she pointed a gun at him during an argument on Wednesday, detectives said. A woman is charged with murder for bringing the gun to the woman who was killed.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. along Riverwalk Parkway near Celriver Road, just east of Interstate 77 in Rock Hill. When officers arrived, they found a woman lying on the ground after she'd been shot. The woman was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where she died, Rock Hill Police said.
The woman has been identified as 39-year-old Rock Hill resident, Samarian Lindsay.
A man police say was responsible for the shooting was detained at the scene when officers got there. Officers determined that the man and woman involved in the shooting got into an argument that escalated while leaving work. When the man got into his car to go, the woman got into a car driven by a third person, who pulled her up to block the man from leaving.
The man's coworker got out of the car and approached the passenger side of his car with a gun. The man then pulled out a handgun and shot her in self-defense. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Brittney Reed, allegedly punched the man in the face after the shooting. The man told Reed to get away and he waited for police to arrive.
Rock Hill police said the man will not be charged in the shooting, as they determined it was in self-defense. Reed was charged with assault and battery on Wednesday. Reed's charges were upgraded to murder on Thursday after investigators learned she brought the gun to Lindsay.
